The new Land Rover Wolf Series II Tactical and Utility Military Vehicles have just been trotted out at DVD2026, a big defense industry exhibition in the UK. This is the first time there have officially been mil-spec Defenders since the original boxy, body-on-frame SUVs from the ’90s.
It seems a little odd to reverse-engineer what is now a luxury vehicle back towards ruggedness, but these rigs look extremely cool. And that said, the new Defender is extremely capable, even in a modest civilian spec.
The new military Defenders on display are classified as Tactical Mobility Vehicle (TMV), Mono‑Tactical Mobility Vehicle (M‑TMV), and Utility Vehicle (UV). Basically, there’s a cage-door version that looks like it’d make a fun beach cruiser and a single-cab pickup that looks like an absolutely epic expedition rig. These vehicles appear to be more oriented toward logistical roles than combat, though some of the demo rigs do feature what appear to be turret mounts.
The bumper detail is visible here, along with small Union Jack emblems on the bodywork.
Land Rover is calling these “the first of many variants of Defender Wolf Series II to come,” and they are built on the Defender’s D7x monocoque construction. JLR argues that “this creates a stiffer body structure to tackle the harshest of environments and increased payload capacity over prior ‘ladder on frame’ technology.”
Specific powertrain and payload specs haven’t been shared yet — likely because there’s some flexibility depending on what the vehicles are being specced for. The automaker’s pitch is as follows:
“Defender’s expert engineers have end‑to‑end control of Defender Wolf Series II’s engineering process, removing reliance on any third party OEM, to produce a vehicle that meets military requirements for a new, modern fleet at pace and scale with enduring sovereign capability, backed up by JLR’s global supply chain.”

With the Wolf Series II, Land Rover is making a clear statement that the modern Defender’s platform is capable enough to serve military needs without relying on the old body-on-frame formula — and based on these first images, the results are striking.
