The hotly anticipated Forza Horizon 6 has already been out for a few months, but its nature as a live service game means it will receive major updates for a long time to come. On Thursday, Microsoft announced two major updates at the annual Gamescom event. One is a new game type, which adds a new competitive drifting mode to the game’s race tracks. The other, strangely enough, is the imminent debut of convenience store franchise 7-Eleven within the game’s world.
Strange as it may seem to the uninitiated, a 7-Eleven collaboration in a racing game set in Japan is actually a pretty big deal. Japanese 7-Elevens are a bit different than the American convenience stores, with a wider selection of products and a ridiculous density of more than 20,000 stores across a country slightly smaller than California. That success made the Japanese side of the business large enough to eventually buy the American business, so a deal to slot the stores into Forza Horizon is actually an odd dose of authenticity.
Horizon fans less interested in convenience stores will be more interested in Drift Attack, a new track-focused mode coming to the game’s race courses. Like the Time Attack events those venues currently host, Drift Attack is a game type players can access by simply driving onto the circuit in the open world. Once there, the circuit becomes a circular drift zone that adds a dose of competitive drifting realism, with “clipping zones” that multiply your score and promote running a realistic line through the entire lap of sliding.

The 7-Eleven collaboration is launching with a future series update in October. Players hoping to try their hand at Drift Attack will be able to get their first shot when the next series update rolls out on September 7th.
