Automorbit, Sport -Mitsubishi Xpander is actually a family car. But by Rifat Sungkar and Mitsubishi Motors Krama Yudha Sales Indonesia (MMKSI) it was turned into a rally car.
There is a specific goal that Rifat wants to achieve by choosing Xpander as a rally car.
“Why Xpander? Why not? I looked in the mirror from the time I built a Mitsubishi Pajero-based off-road speed car. The Pajero users are really enthusiastic, ”
“Now, LMPV, which sells far more than Pajero. Surely many people will be interested to know more. Apart from that, it is also to bring the rally closer to the community, “said Rifat.
Meanwhile, the intended specifications are also not playing games, AP4. It is a rally car specification that is sophisticated enough for use in the Asia Pacific region.

This research and development (RnD) car has many changes.
“Almost everything is changed. Not a modification that only changes the engine and then installs the rollbar. But this has completely changed, ”said Rifat.
“There is still the original Xpander. The body and parts of the chassis are still Xpander. Because the rear chassis has also been replaced with tubing, ”added Wiewie Rianto, Indonesian rally tuner.
The Mitsubishi Xpander AP4 was built in New Zealand and to date has been the only MPV converted into a rally car.
Of course, there were many obstacles when building this car.
“The main thing is in the wheelbase, because it is very long. Unlike the hatchback cars which are usually used as the basis for rally cars, ”
“So it really needs a lot of changes to make it a rally car. The remaining cabins are also very empty. For an ordinary rally car, it can only carry 2 spare tires, this Xpander can carry 6 tires at a time, ”said Wiewie.
For the ‘nyupir’ itself, according to Rifat it is slightly different. Again, because it has a long wheelbase, handling is a little different.
Rifat himself is already “full” trying out many rally cars. Starting from sedans and hatchbacks.
By the way, this Mitsubishi Xpander AP4 is the most expensive Xpander in Indonesia.
Unfortunately, the numbers are kept secret.
As a rule of thumb, if you buy a “finished” AP4 rally car, it’s around Rp. 3 billion. Well, guess for yourself if you have to build from scratch.
