The Mercedes-Benz G-Wagen prints money in part because it is one of the most audacious things available new from a dealership—but audacity is not a limited resource. Brabus, for one, is happy to sell G-Wagen owners something even more ostentatious for a price, and their latest take on the modern classic might be their most absurd build yet.
Yes, the Brabus P900 Rocket Edition is a pickup truck based on the Mercedes-AMG G63. That alone is quite the feat—although admittedly not their first time at this particular rodeo—but this is a Brabus build; there’s always more. The company has bumped the standard 4.0-liter V-8’s displacement up to 4.5 liters and brought total power up from 577 horsepower to an even 900 hp. The engine produces a peak torque output of 922 lb-ft, but the company says that this is electronically limited at 774 lb-ft “to protect the drivetrain components.”

Brabus claims that those power figures get the pickup from 0 to 62 miles per hour in 3.7 seconds, seven-tenths of a second quicker than the manufacturer claim for the standard G63. The brand also claims that the P900 Rocket Edition tops out at 149 mph, on par with what the more conventionally SUV-shaped G63 is limited to with an optional performance package.

As impressive as those power figures are, though, a Brabus G-Wagen is about being seen in a Brabus G-Wagen. The pickup body on a P900 Rocket Edition is unlikely to ever be used to haul lumber or help anyone move, but the bed gives the truck an unmistakable shape—one that complements the usual absurd widebody and other design features seen on the company’s custom builds. For the Brabus buyer looking to make an impression on the streets of Los Angeles, Miami, or anywhere else, the P900 comes behind only the art deco look of the Bodo.
